Interior Stone Surfacing Applications

Description

Interior surfacing is a thermal set 2-part UV stable polyurethane resin blended with a design mix of aggregates (typically 4mm-6mm) to create a continuous flexible stone surfacing system.

Uses

This process is ideal for interior applications for residential and commercial flooring, such as; shop floors, showrooms, courtyards, balconies, hallways, and alfresco areas, to name a few.

Suitable Surfaces

Interior stone surfacing is designed to be overlaid on concrete or asphalt substrates. For the best understanding of appropriate surfaces, refer to the overlay of concrete and timber flooring or the asphalt specification advice sheets for more detail.

Safety

For detailed information on interior stone surfacing applications, refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet. Safety equipment such as gloves, goggles, overalls, and safety footwear is highly recommended.

Surface Preparation

Any area where you plan to install natural stone carpeting should be clean, dry and free from oil, grease, vegetation, chewing gum, loose matter and any other contaminants that may impair the adhesion of the binder to the substrate. All new concrete substrates must be subjected to a minimum curing period of 28 days and primed with Rockseal Concrete Primer.

Mixing

A cement mixer is required to blend the bagged aggregate that will make up your stone flooring. The part A and B resin is then mixed in a separate mixing vessel using an electric drill and paddle. Resin mix is then added to the cement mixer and combined with the aggregate to. Once mixed it is dispensed to a wheelbarrow and taken to work site ready for trowelling.

Storage

All resins and aggregate materials must be stored in a clean and dry environment. Refer to the storage instructions and use-by date on your interior stone surfacing kit for details.

Application

Resin-bound stone flooring is applied by trained and accredited applicators using hand trowels. An asphalt rake, lute or gauge rake may be used to assist an even spread of material when dispensing the mixed material. By using the hand trowels, the resin-bound flooring system should be nice and compact with an even consistency and level. The trowel should be regularly wiped clean to avoid resin build up and to achieve best results. Repeat process to completion. Do not walk on surface until completely set and tack free. Do not traffic surface with vehicles for 3 days.

Clean Up

These applications are relatively easy to clean. It’s best to use mineral spirits, a common organic solvent, to ensure dirt, grime, and debris are thoroughly removed from the stone and resin flooring.

Technical Data

Standard Pack Size

A standard pack contains an 80kg kit of resin and aggregate; however, other sizes are available to accommodate different application sizes.

Cure Time

Standard-grade resin-bound stone flooring requires 3–5 hours @ 20ºC to cure. Other grades are available and may have different ideal curing conditions, so make sure to read the instructions on your kit carefully.

Application Conditions

  • Ground temperature 5- 45ºC
  • No rain, showers or ambient humidity above 90%
  • Don’t apply when ground conditions are beyond the dew point (refer to dew point calculator)
  • Your stone flooring will not be able to cure or bind as well on damp or wet surfaces

Performance Properties

  • Tensile Strength: 100Kn/m (When used with Fibregrid)
  • UV Stability: 60ºgloss > 90% over 5 years (ASTM D523 Florida Gloss Retention)
